Conversely, Supratik Sen drags us away from the air-conditioned boardrooms and into the grit of the streets and the silence of forgotten rooms. His narratives, such as A buried story cremated and Crime in the City, are unflinching examinations of honour killings, systemic corruption, and the desperate arithmetic of survival. Sen explores the hidden emotional truths of everyday lives, centering on trauma and the quiet strength of ordinary people facing extraordinary moral crises.
Yet, as you read these stories in sequence, a singular thread emerges: the fragility of human connection. Whether it is a wife grappling with her husband's secret desires in Malakar’s Pain and Pleasure , or a daughter fighting for the dignity of her neurodivergent son in Sen’s Srinika, the struggle is the same. It is the universal fight to be seen, to be understood, and to survive the institutions—marriage, family, the law—that promise to protect us but often fail.
This book does not offer easy answers. It offers the "familiar contradictions of city life: success paired with loneliness, intimacy layered with secrecy". It is a journey through the myriad fragrances of life and the dark corners where we hide our deepest fears.

Of the rare contemporary works, which throw light on the social life of the Calcutta of Warren Hastings and Sir Philp Francis one of the rarest and certainly the most interesting is the Original Letters of Mrs. Fay. The book introduces Mrs. Fay and her husband to us on 18th April 1779, and in July 1795, the narrative leaves her, at a low ebb in her fortunes.
Mrs. Fay survived to see Calcutta in her youth and other places from then Egypt, Malabar, Murshidabad to "Chandernagore".
Well, In that time, as it has been observed, Calcutta, being a place of frequent partings, is, in consequence, a place of short memories.
Mrs. Fay, in advanced years, returned to Calcutta, about a year before her death, and set to work to put her letters into print, it may indeed be wondered how it is that a book so often laid under contribution, so full of adventures, containing so many clearly cut descriptions of interesting persons and place.

The prose of the novella excerpt, Crusader and the Hundred Horses, exhibits a unique and compelling stylistic voice. The text is characterized by a distinctive blend of formal, at times poetic, diction and unconventional syntactic structures, which together create a singular narrative persona. This voice, reminiscent of oral storytelling traditions, sets the novella apart from conventional contemporary English prose.
The narrative's setting in pre-independence India is a crucial contextual element that informs its style. The story features a young modern historian, Reena Sanyal, who travels to a remote village in the province of Chattishgarh to uncover the story of a tribal freedom fighter, Mohit Hembram. Besides, the story depicts an intense love of the tribal hero with an English girl since their childhood days in the British ruled India.

১৬শ র শতকের মাঝামাঝি ইউরোপীয় রাজনীতিতে যখন ক্যাথলিক ফ্রান্সকে গ্রাস করার জন্য চারিপাশ থেকে নানান দেশ ওৎ পেতে বসে ছিলো, তখন ফ্রান্সকে বাঁচিয়ে রাখার শেষ সম্বল হিসাবে ত্রয়োদশ লুইয়ের সাথে অ্যন অফ অসট্রিয়ার বিবাহ ও কার্ডিনাল রিচলুর শরণ ও খুব একটা কার্যকরী হয়ে উঠলো না। কার্ডিনাল রিচলুর কঠোর বাস্তববোধের সামনে রাজা ত্রয়োদশ লুইয় নাস্তানাবুদ হয়ে তাঁর হাতের পুতুল হয়ে উঠলেন। কিন্তু "থ্রি মাস্কেটিয়ার্স" ঘটনাকে নিয়ে গিয়েছিলো অন্যদিকে।
"টুয়েন্টি ইয়ার্স আফটার"— আলেকজান্ডার দ্যুমা তাঁর কালজয়ী "থ্রি মাস্কেটিয়ার্স" চরিত্রগুলিকে কুড়ি বছর পর আবার ফিরিয়ে এনেছেন, কিন্তু এবার তারা আগের মতো তরুণ, বেপরোয়া নয়—তারা পরিণত, দ্বিধাগ্রস্ত, এবং ইতিহাসের এক সংকটময় মুহূর্তে দাঁড়িয়ে। সময়টা এখন ১৬৪৮-১৬৪৯। বকলমে ফ্রান্সের সর্বেসর্বা কার্ডিনাল রিচলু আজ কেবলমাত্র তাঁর পূর্বের ক্ষমতার এক ক্ষীণ ছায়ায় পরিণত হয়েছেন। ইউরোপীয় রাজনীতির যাঁতাকলে ফ্রান্সের ভবিষৎ পিষে দেওয়ার জন্য চারিধার থেকে বিভিন্ন দেশ চিল- শকুনের মত ওৎ পেতে আছে। ত্রয়োদশ লুই এর মৃত্যু হয়েছে, কার্ডিনাল রিচলুর ও স্বর্গবাস হয়েছে। ফ্রান্সের কিশোর রাজা চতুর্দশ লুই নাবালক হওয়ায় রাজ প্রতিনিধিত্ব করছেন এন অফ অস্ট্রিয়া। কিন্তু তাকে নেপথ্যে চালনা করছেন কার্ডিনাল মার্জারিন। ডার্টেনান এখন মাস্কেটিয়ারদের প্রধান, তার বাকি তিন সঙ্গী অবসরপ্রাপ্ত। অ্যাথস একজন সম্ভ্রান্ত ব্যাক্তি কমটে দে লা ফের নামে পরিচিত, নিজের সুপুত্র রাউল দে ব্রাগলন এর সাথে থাকেন। আরামিস, প্রকৃত নাম দে আর্বলে, যুদ্ধ বেশ ত্যাগ করে ধর্মের ডাকে সাড়া দিয়েছেন এবং পর্থস একজন ধনী মহিলাকে বিবাহ করেছেন।
আবার ঘনিয়ে ওঠে নানা ঘটনা, "থ্রি মাস্কেটিয়ার্স" কি পারবে ঘটনাকে অন্যদিকে নিয়ে যেতে?

যে জীবন ইতিহাসে লিপিবদ্ধ, তার বাইরেও থাকে এক অলিখিত জীবন—স্বপ্নের, সম্ভাবনার, এবং কল্পনার। ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র বিদ্যাসাগরের জীবন যেমন এক দীপ্তিমান প্রদীপ, তেমনি এই গ্রন্থে তিনি হয়ে উঠেছেন এক কাব্যিক চরিত্র, যাঁর অন্তরঙ্গতা, দ্বন্দ্ব, এবং নিঃসঙ্গতা আমাদের নতুন করে ভাবায়।

সন্ধ্যা বোস লিখেছেন মা-দিদিমার কাছ থেকে শেখা ওপার বাংলার নানারকমের রান্নার রেসিপি। দেশভাগের যন্ত্রণার মিশেল দিয়ে এই সব হারিয়ে যাওয়া রেসিপিগুলো হয়ে উঠেছে স্বমহিমায় স্বতন্ত্র। নিজের গ্রাম ছেড়ে কাঁটাতারের বেড়া পার করে আসার মর্মবেদনা ফুটে উঠেছে এই লেখার পরতে পরতে।
“যাবে না কেউ এবার, কেননা দেশ না কি এবার ভাগ হয়ে গেছে।
নীলুদের গ্রামটা না কি এখন অন্য একটা দেশ। ভারি আজব কথা।”
শঙ্খ ঘোষের লেখায় পড়া নীলুর মতনই সন্ধ্যা বোসের জীবনেও ঘটেছিল একই ঘটনা। নিরুচ্চার কান্না আর বিষণ্ণতা নিয়ে, ঠিক নীলুর মতো-ই তিনিও ফিরে তাকিয়েছেন হারানো দেশের দিকে। তাই এই বই খানিকটা তার স্মৃতি কথাও বটে। সেই সঙ্গে তিনি তুলে নিয়ে এসেছেন পূর্ববঙ্গের রান্নাবান্নার কথা। বইরাগ পাবলিকেশন তাঁর সেই স্মৃতির রেসিপি নিয়ে প্রকাশ করল বইরাগের ই-রেসিপি-বুক ‘পদ্মাপারের রান্নাকথা’। এগুলো ঠিক রেসিপি নয়, আবেগ আর স্মৃতির এমন ককটেল, যা আমাদের টাইম মেশিনে চড়ে পেছন পানে যেতে বাধ্য করে।

This book, In the Light of Words / À la lumière des mots, is a testimony to the power of language—its ability to heal, to confront, to awaken, and to console. The poems oscillate between stark social commentary and transcendental musings. They do not shy away from darkness but dare to dwell in it, in search of the sacred light within.
The English section often reflects a stark reality. In "The World Falls Apart", we encounter a bleak portrait of societal collapse. In "A Piece of Furniture", a seemingly mundane table becomes a living relic of memory and intergenerational love. In "Ignorant Knowledge", there’s a poignant indictment of the very institutions meant to educate us, and a critique of modernity's obsession with data over wisdom.
The French poems bring in a different cadence—at times mystic, at times melancholic. « Qu’il demeure, qu’il s’écoule » is a lyrical meditation on impermanence and acceptance. « Un Monde en Déséquilibre » explores the moral inertia of modernity and its catastrophic consequences. « La Femme Médecin Disparue » echoes the English counterpart, speaking to gendered violence with haunting restraint.

ক্রিকেটের খেরোর খাতা- আগের এই বইটি প্রকাশিত হয়েছিল লেখকের জীবনের প্রথম ক্রিকেট ম্যাচ দেখবার অভিজ্ঞতা – পাঁচবছরের বালকের বিস্ময়বিমুগ্ধ দৃষ্টিতে গ্যারি সোবার্সের শতরান দর্শন থেকে, শেষ হয়েছিল , নটিংহ্যামের ট্রেন্ট ব্রিজ মাঠে, ক্রিকেটের ‘সুইসাইড স্কোয়্যাড’ দিয়ে।
এবার এসেছে “ক্রিকেটের খেরোর খাতা: ফলো-অন”, ২০২২ থেকে শুরু করে ২০২৫ পর্যন্ত হালফিলের ক্রিকেটের নানা গল্প নিয়ে।আশা করবো এই বইটিও আগেরটির মতন পাঠকের ভালোবাসা পাবে।

মনীষীদের জীবন, সাধনা, কর্ম বিশেষত জীবনী আকারে বিবৃত করে থাকেন বিশিষ্ট জনেরা। সেরকমই এক যুগাবতার, স্বামী বিবেকানন্দকে নিয়ে বহু জীবনীকার একাধিক গ্রন্থ রচনা করে গেছেন যেগুলি সম্পূর্ণরূপে আকর গ্রন্থ। সেসব গ্রন্থ সহজলভ্য হলেও বহু পাঠকের কাছে তার পঠন অনেকটাই ভারী হয়ে ওঠে। এমন ক্ষেত্রে উপন্যাস লেখকরা প্রকৃত তথ্য ও তত্ত্বকে অবিকৃত রেখে মনীষীর জীবন সরণি বেয়ে নিজেদের কল্পনাকে মিশিয়ে যে উপন্যাস পাঠকের সামনে তুলে ধরেন, তাতে পাঠকের পক্ষে ওই মনীষীকে জানা কিছুটা সহজ হয়ে ওঠে এবং জীবনী পাঠে পাঠককে আগ্রহী করে তোলে।
স্বামী বিবেকানন্দকে নিয়ে এমনই এক উপন্যাস, ‘চারণিক, স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের পরিব্রাজক জীবনের অত্যাশ্চর্য কাহিনি’ রচিত হয়েছে। যেখানে গুরু গম্ভীর তথ্য ও তত্ত্বের ভান্ডার না যোগ করেও স্বামীজি পরিচয়ের আড়ালে কাছের মানুষ বিবেকানন্দকে পরিচয় করানো হয়েছে।
এ সত্য সকলেরই জানা , বিবেকানন্দ অত্যন্ত স্বল্পায়ু ছিলেন। ৩৯ বছর ৫ মাস ২৪ দিনের জীবনের মাত্র আটটি বছরকে এই উপন্যাসে ধরা আছে। সময় কাল ১৮৮৬ থেকে ১৮৯৩। ওনার ২৪ বছর বয়স অর্থাৎ রামকৃষ্ণ সঙ্ঘ স্থাপনার সময় থেকে ৩১ বছর যা শিকাগো বক্তৃতা দানের সময়, এই সময়টুকুতে স্বামীজির পর্যটক হয়ে ভারত ভ্রমণের যা যা কর্মকাণ্ড, সেটুকুই বিধৃত হয়েছে।

স্বাধীনতা পূর্বের সময়ে বাংলার ফরিদপুর জেলার এক ছোট গ্রামের ছেলে কিশোর বয়সেই ঝাঁপ দেন স্বাধীনতা আন্দোলনে, জেলেও যান, তিনিই এই বইটির লেখক ! তাঁর তরুণ বয়সে ক্রমে ক্রমে তিনি জড়িয়ে পড়েন বিপ্লবীদের দ্বারা সংঘটিত প্রেসিডেন্সি জেলের জেলার কে খুনের মামলায়!
আনাড়ি সন্ন্যাসীর ভেক ধরে ফেরারী হতে বাধ্য হন তিনি! তিনি হৃষিকেশ থেকে ব্রজ, এই বিশাল পথে ঘুরে বেড়ান আর সান্নিধ্যে আসেন যেমন সাধারণ মানুষের তেমনই ধর্মের ধ্বজাধারীদেরও ! তাঁর ভালো মন্দ অদ্ভুত সব অভিজ্ঞতা হয়, আর সেই অভিজ্ঞতা ভাবায় এবং ঋদ্ধ করে পাঠকদেরও!
ভারতের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের অগ্নিযুগে অ্যাংলো ইন্ডিয়ানদের যোগদান ছিল? তাঁরা তো ছিলেন ইউরোপিয়ান আর ভারতীয় এই দুইদিকের মাঝখানে! কিন্তু যাঁদের জন্ম এই দেশে তাঁদের কি কখনো স্বাধীনতা আন্দোলন ডাক দিয়েছিলো?
ভারতীয় দর্শনের একটা অংশ বলে জগৎ মায়া! কিন্তু সাধু সন্ন্যাসীরা যারা কিনা সংসার ত্যাগ করেছিলেন, তাঁদের বুকে কি ভারতের পরাধীনতা বিঁধতো? নাকি তাঁরা সংসার উদাসীন হয়েই থেকে গিয়েছিলেন! স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামে তাঁরা কি কোনো ভাবে যোগ দিয়েছিলেন? কেমন ছিল বৃন্দাবন থেকে হৃষিকেশে থাকা সাধুসন্তদের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামে যোগদান?
আর লেখক দেখেছিলেন সাধারণ মানুষ! ছাপোষা জমাদার নাথুয়া দোসাদ, অন্যের জীবন বাঁচিয়ে যে উঠে যায় এক অন্য স্তরে, লেখক তাকেই উৎসর্গ করেছেন বইটি! আর অনীতা, রতিয়া, নিরুদি, পারু-পরিতোষের কাহিনী যার সমান্তরালে চলে আলাউদ্দিনের আক্রমনে ধ্বংস হওয়া থানেশ্বর মন্দিরের পাশে এক নির্লোভ বাঙালি মুসলমান ফকির আর অশরীরী গঙ্গার কাহিনী, লছমী মহারাজসিং আর তাদের সন্তান বিঠ্ঠলের কাহিনী! অবধূত সদানন্দর কাহিনী, যাযাবর মহান্তজির কাহিনী, যার ইচ্ছে অবতারত্ত্বে উন্নীত হওয়া!
এইসব অকথিত কাহিনী নিয়ে প্রকাশিত এই অখণ্ড সংস্করণ যাতে আছে অগ্নিযুগের পথচারী এবং অগ্নিযুগের ফেরারি একসঙ্গে।

জীবনের প্রতিটি স্তরে মানুষ খোঁজে অর্থ, সম্পর্ক, ও আত্মপরিচয়ের সূত্র। পঁচিশটি ছোটগল্প নিয়ে এই সংকলনের প্রতিটি গল্প—কখনও সূক্ষ্ম রসিকতায় মোড়া, কখনও বা নিঃশব্দ দীর্ঘশ্বাসে—আসে সমাজের গভীর প্রান্ত থেকে, যেখানে প্রতিদিনের খুঁটিনাটি ঘটনাই হয়ে ওঠে অন্তরের আয়না। এই সংকলন, গল্পগুলির কিছু প্রকাশিত হয়েছে সানন্দার কিছু সংখ্যায় ! নানা স্বাদের গল্পগুলি পাঠকের পছন্দ হবে আশা করি আমরা!
